Do you ever catch yourself HOLDING your breath?
Fear, insecurity, anxiety, anger, escape. Why do we hold our breath you ask??
All of the above. These emotions all draw us towards a nervous tendency to feel a shock, which in turn, causes us to hold our breath. But, what does this mean? This means you have been presented with something unexpected, and this surprise, because of previous traumas, has rendered you immobile, sometimes from action, sometimes from thought, and if the surprise is big enough, sometimes from both. |
How can I remember to breathe?
This task calls for some conscious awareness! During moments of intense immobilizing emotions, the best thing to do is breathe.
We understand this can be a problem, and so, we have created this page as a short/quick guide to breathing with consciousness.

Recognize
As a first step, we must recognize what has happened
• This situation has put you in a minor state of shock.
• This shock has immobilized your thoughts or/and actions. • Become aware of the fact that this new trauma has caused you to hold your breath. |
Search
Next, we must search the situation for only the facts
(The Truth) • Seek within the situation the truths about the situation (e.g. everyone involved is still with life, no real permanent physical damage has been done, your life has not ended.)
• Consider the drama and fairytales our minds create which are not the truth. |
Accept
We must then accept the truths about the situation
• You are still with life.
• You have a decision to make. • All decisions will change your life. • You will always make the right choice for yourself. • The path or decision you choose will bring you to experience the truth. |
Breathe
In accepting all this, we permit our body to breathe
• Release your breath out. (Exhale)
• By releasing and exhaling you are returning those doubts and worries that you held with your breath and allowing a flow to continue. • In the flow, you give as you received. (Response-Ability) |
